Description
Marion Orr’s British Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) portrait, circa 1943. Orr worked as an aircraft inspector at De Havilland Aircraft of Canada before applying to the ATA. She earned her commercial licence in 1941 and was the second woman in Canada to qualify as an air traffic control assistant. She later passed the required flight tests at the Royal Canadian Air Force Station in Trenton, Ontario, for a licence to teach flying, one of only a few women to do so before the end of the Second World War.
