Description
Toronto Island offered a resort like atmosphere and was considered a great getaway location for those looking to escape the city environment. It was praised for its splendid nature and beaches. Proposals for a fixed-link in 1894 were met with support from those who wanted cheap and easy access to the island, and opposition from those who didn't want to ruin the peace, quiet, and nature of the island.
