Description
Allan Gardens stereoscopic photographs, c.1880s–1900s. The dual images created a basic 3D effect when viewed with a special device called a stereoscope.
The image is a vintage stereograph depicting a scene in a formal garden. In the foreground, there is a circular flower bed with a variety of plants, highlighted with pink flowers around the edge. Several people, including men, women, and a child, are scattered throughout the scene, some standing while others sit on the grass. In the background, a large ornate fountain stands near the center, flanked by trees. Behind the fountain, a grand building with multiple windows and a veranda can be seen. The scene is bordered by a lightly-tinted, sepia-toned finish typical of historical photographs.
