Toronto's beautiful garden, c.1894
Description
Allan Gardens stereoscopic photographs, c.1880s–1900s. The dual images created a basic 3D effect when viewed with a special device called a stereoscope.
The image is a vintage stereoscopic photograph depicting a garden scene in Toronto, Canada. It is divided into two nearly identical halves, creating a three-dimensional effect when viewed through a stereoscope. The photograph captures a grassy garden with neatly trimmed pathways and blooming flowers. In the foreground, two children are prominent; one is seated in a small cart, wearing a large hat, and the other stands beside her, wearing a dark coat and cap. Both children have red-tinted flowers or clothing, adding a splash of color to the sepia-toned image. In the background, several adults are seated on the grass or walking, with some clothing also highlighted in red. A large, ornate fountain is visible amidst the greenery, and beyond that, a large building is partially obscured by trees. The sky appears clear and bright.
