Description
You are now near one of Toronto's most studied archeological sites. Around 1450, a large ancestral Huron-Wendat village stood on the rise of land overlooking Black Creek.
Almost three hectares in size, the village was twice as large as previous sites, and was occupied during a critical period in ancestral Huron-Wendat history when smaller communities joined to form larger, heavily fortified towns. Archeological test excavations have revealed evidence of numerous longhouses, semi-subterranean sweatlodges, and a defensive palisade.
