Description
Don Brewery Lager Building, 1877.
This building is the last remaining structure of the Don Brewery, which operated from 1844 until 1910. In 1849, the building was purchased by Thomas Davies from William and Robert Parks. Davies expanded production together with his eldest son, Thomas Junior. In 1877, architects Smith & Gemmell designed this structure for the brewery. Here, the Don Brewery was one of the first in Toronto to make lager-style beer, which required ice from the Don River. A fire in 1907 destroyed the rest of the brewing complex. The building is now a residential condominium.
Designated in 1996 under the Ontario Heritage Act.
