Description
Tour participants stand in Liberty Village Park. In addition to the adaptive reuse of the area's many factories into condos and creative spaces, the landscape also features several public art installations. Here we see "Split Rock Gap", the work of artist Francisco Gazitua. According to the artist, the work is a "symbol for the struggle for life", and references the geological and natural history of Canada. He was inspired by the paintings of Tom Thomson, specifically of wind-shorn pines.
Made of stainless steel, the 3-tonne structure extends 11 meters high.
