Description
From its opening in 1931, Maple Leaf Gardens became Toronto’s premier location for large events, hosting sports games, musical performances, and even political rallies. In 1935, William Lyon McKenzie King spoke to a crowd of 17,000 during his election campaign. The event also marked one of the first nation-wide radio broadcasts: eight provincial Premiers, each speaking from their home province, declared their support for the Liberal Party as part of the rally.
