Description
During the Second World War, Scarborough was home to the GECO (General Engineering Company) munitions plant. The plant had an mainly female workforce and was in operation for four years between 1941 and 1945. During that time, the plant filled 256 million munitions shells with women handling explosives 24 hours a day, six days a week.
