Description
An aerial look at St. James Town in 1969 demonstrates how high-rise development dramatically changed the neighbourhood over several years. By 1969, almost all of the Victorian-era residences were demolished, replaced by several tall apartment buildings. The east-west street, St. James Avenue, had been re-routed to accommodate several new buildings. One of the few remaining Victorian buildings can be seen at 600 Parliament Street, indicated by the red circle. Owner Lucio Casaccio had refused to sell the property to developers several years prior.
