Description
Tour participants stand near 200 Wellesley Street East to view a 30-storey mural. In 2010, a 6-alarm fire on the 24th floor of this building forced the evacuation of over 1200 residents; seventeen people were injured. In 2013, youth from the community came together to transform the side of this building into the World’s Tallest Mural.
Depicting a phoenix rising from the ashes, the mural also features themes of diversity, accessibility, safety, happiness and other aspects of local culture weaved into its lower sections. It took over a year of collaboration to complete with community members, STEPS Public Art, and the artist Sean Martindale.
