Description
Constructed in 1967 as part of a centennial project, the Century School House was designed as a reproduction of a typical one-room schoolhouse found between the 1860s and the 1890s. The building was designed as a way to teach local students about the history of education in Ontario. Today, the Century Schoolhouse is operated by the TDSB as part of the Urban Education Centre. Programs are delivered in consultation with the Urban Indigenous Education Centre to better explore the lives of children attending school from a variety of perspectives, and to better discuss the ongoing legacy of colonialism, residential schools, and systemic racism in education.
