Description
Lieutenant Leslie Howard Miller, 1918. An expert in languages, Miller served in the Signal Corps where he received commendations for intercepting and decoding German wireless messages. Following the Battle of Vimy Ridge, Miller wrote in his diary: “The whole surface of the ground is a shapeless mess of broken trees, shell holes and ruined trenches. It is by far the worst sight that I have ever seen, and the smells are sickening.”
