Description
From 1962 until 2004, future leaders of the Salvation Army, a church and social service organization, were trained here. Students, known as "cadets", undertook intensive bible study, studied Greek, and received first aid training.
The William Booth Memorial College relocated from downtown to this site to accommodate growth in its programs. The new facility could accommodate up to 130 students. Designed in the Modern style by the architecture firm of Marani, Morris & Allan, the complex comprised an administrative building and three residences that accommodated up to 130 students. Each building featured red brick cladding accented by brick and stone detailing. Glass-enclosed walkways linked the buildings together.
In 2004, the Salvation Army consolidated its training facilities in Winnipeg. The City of Toronto listed the buildings on its Inventory of Heritage Properties in the following year. Subsequently, they were demolished.
