Description
Tour attendees learn about the Chinatown West neighbourhood - created by the westward relocation of Chinese residents and businesses in the 1960s, after the destruction of the Ward. The community settled along Dundas Street West and Spadina Avenue.
Here, at Great China Herbs, they also learn about the recent work on the new Huron Street Public Square. A partnership of the Chinatown Toronto BIA and city, the square was designed by local architect Jyhling Lee and includes a set of pagoda-inspired structures displaying animals from the Chinese zodiac, decorative red benches, and a statue of a Qilin, a mythical Asian creature that symbolizes good luck and prosperity.
