Description
Albert Jackson applied to work as a letter carrier and was hired in 1882 but after his colleagues refused to train him he was demoted to a lower position as a caretaker. He was eventually reinstated after the Black community in Toronto and his family members held a public meeting and protested on his behalf. Albert picked up mail for his deliveries from the General Post Office and delivered mail through Harbord Village for about 36 years until his death in 1918.
