Description

Massey College, a private project funded by Vincent Massey, opened in 1963 as a residence for graduate male students at the University of Toronto. The building, designed by architect Ron Thom, is a very different approach to Modernist architecture: designed around a central quadrangle inspired by the colleges of Oxford, red brick replaces concrete.

Three sides of the quadrangle house residences and the fourth side houses two libraries - the Upper Library and the basement Lower Library, also known as the Robertson Davies Library, which focuses on the history of printing and includes a fully functional print shop with rare pieces of historical equipment and unusual examples of typography.
