Description
Led by archaeologists from our community partner ASI, tour participants explore the Baby Point neighbourhood. The area is the location of one of the best-known First Nations archaeological sites in the City of Toronto. In the 17th century, the Senecas lived here in an agricultural village "Teiaiagon" of perhaps 1,000 people, surrounded by fields of corn, beans, and squash.
The village sat on a strategic location allowing its occupants to control the southern end of the Carrying Place trail, an important trade route linking Lake Ontario to the upper Great Lakes through Lake Simcoe.
