Description
Tour participants explore Bloorcourt, a neighbourhood transformed by generations of immigrants: from postwar Italian and Portuguese migrants to more recent Ethiopian and Eritrean newcomers.
Here, participants rest on pair of benches inscribed with a poem by Dionne Brand. Brand immigrated to Toronto in 1970 from Trinidad and was named Toronto’s Poet Laureate in 2009. A local resident, she composed this poem while she was sitting at this corner, watching pedestrians walk by.
The tour was developed and led by emerging historian Beatrice Hunter.
