Willoughby Baptist Church Commemorative Plaque, 2007.
Description
For 93 years, this was the site of a neo-Gothic church building designed by the Toronto architecture firm Ellis and Connery. Fronting on Indian Road (formerly Willoughby Avenue), the red-brick and stone church, with its square bell tower topped by battlements, was a landmark on this corner. Its controversial demolition in 2004 raised city-wide awareness of the need for better heritage protection.
