Description

Oscar Romero was a Salvadoran Archbishop who advocated for peace during the Salvadoran Civil War and condemned the right-wing government's human rights violations in El Salvador. On March 24, 1980, Romero was assassinated by the Salvadoran government after delivering a sermon at a church-run hospital. After his death, Romero was viewed as a martyr and folk hero among the Salvadoran people. In 2018, he was officially canonized as a Saint by the Catholic Church.
