Street Lighting, Allan Gardens, 1880

Description

Allan Gardens stereoscopic photographs, c.1880s–1900s. The dual images created a basic 3D effect when viewed with a special device called a stereoscope.

The image is a sepia-toned stereoscopic photograph depicting a garden scene with an ornate building in the background. In the foreground, a lamp post with a decorative design stands prominently amidst tidy landscaping featuring a large cluster of plants. Several individuals dressed in 19th-century attire, including hats and formal clothing, are positioned around the garden area. To the right, a fountain sprays water, surrounded by trees and further floral arrangements. The building in the background is multi-storied and adorned with balconies, intricate wooden detailing, and multiple flagpoles.
