Description
On the evening of August 2, 1918, several hundred World War I veterans, alongside Toronto citizens, attacked Greek-owned businesses on Yonge and Queen Streets. The riot began following the expulsion of World War I veteran Claude Cludernay from the Greek-owned White City Cafe. Many of the veterans who participated in the riot were in Toronto to attend the Congress of the Great War Veterans Association to protest the poor treatment of those who had served in the war.
