Medical room, 1935. The social hygiene movement, which aimed to end sexually transmitted infections, influenced many Ontario institutions, including the Mercer and its medical staff. Without consent. prisoners were subjected to experimental treatments and could receive drug doses that far exceeded Board of Health limits.
