Description
Elephant House (originally Colombo Ice Company) was founded in Sri Lanka (then known as Ceylon under British rule) in 1866 as an ice-making company, managed by Arthur Kurt Von Possner. Tamil restaurants like New Hopper Hut are some of the few places in the city where Elephant House drinks are sold. While Ginger Beer (known as “EGB”) and Soda are some of the oldest in the brand, young Tamils in the city fondly remember Cream Soda and the raspberry-flavoured Necto as childhood treats. These drinks are just some of the nostalgia goods imported from South Asia to Toronto.
