Oil painting of Captain John Playter of the
York Militia, circa 1837. His brother Ely Playter
ran the Miles Tavern for two years and wrote
about daily business in his diary, which
included some of the earliest accounts of
women, Indigenous People, and Black pioneers in the Don Valley.
