Description
The Brigden family were notable residents of the St. James Town area at the turn of the twentieth century. Frederick Brigden Sr. helped to found the Toronto Engraving Company in 1877, which supplied Toronto newspapers and printers with engravings and illustrations. In 1888, Brigden formed the "Saturday Club", an arts and letters group, that met weekly at the family home on Rose Avenue. This image, taken at a meeting of the Saturday Club, is one of the few surviving photos that shows the interior of a St. James Town area house from this period.
