Description
The Boys and Girls House at 40 St. George St. was opened in 1922 under the direction of noted children's librarian, Lillian Smith. When it opened, it was the only exclusive library for children in the British Empire. The library's collections expanded significantly when Edgar Osborne donated over 40,000 books to the library in the 1940s. The original library building was demolished in 1962 for a new, larger facility which opened in 1964 at the same location.
