Description
Tour participants stand near 730 Ontario St, and learn about the significant redevelopment to St. James Town that occurred in the 1960s and 1970s, influenced by the “Towers in the Park” model - first developed by Le Corbusier, a Swiss-born architect. This model was argued to be an efficient way to maximize land, address urban congestion, and expand access to green space, but required mass demolition for renewal.
The in-person tour for St. James Town was led by Ori Abara, who notes: "I undertook a lot of research and it was very much linked to my work as a heritage consultant. It opened up my eyes to the different resources that one might look at for the reports that I'd prepare at work."
Ori's work was made possible by funding from the Emerging Historian program, which provides meaningful experiences and support to young people building their careers in the heritage sector.
