Phillips Garment Co. Fire Commemorative plaque presentation, October 6, 2021.
Description
Event participants take a closer look at the Phillips Garment Co. Fire Commemorative plaque. On January 20, 1950, nine garment workers died as a result of this factory fire on Richmond Street West near Spadina Avenue. The disaster highlighted poor working conditions and a general lack of safety in Toronto’s garment factories.
The event was organized by Councilor James Pasternak's office, and was attended by some family members of the victims.
