Description
Just south of Gerrard and east of Greenwood, by the The Gerrard India Bazaar, once was the location of the Ulster Stadium, home of Ulster United, also known as the Red Handers football team. Ulster United was formed in 1914 and began playing in the Toronto leagues. The team became quite successful, moving up the Toronto leagues. The stadium was officially opened in 1925 and even saw a visiting game from the Glasgow Rangers in 1930. South of Greenwood Ave. is Athletic Ave. named in reference to the stadium that once stood. The Ulster Arms Tavern - a pub, an important part of football club culture, doubled as the team's club house.
