A sketch of John Tinsley from 1890. City of Toronto Archives He signed his name and birth year under the drawing. Tinsley died at 109, making him one of the longest-living Canadians at the time. He was profiled in the The Globe in 1890 and was later described as the “celebrated patriarch of the coloured community” in his obituary.
