Description
Thornton Blackburn drew inspiration from public transportation cabs in Montreal when designing his own taxicab service in Toronto. He first began providing his services along King Street, a commercial hub of Toronto in the late 1800s. Blackburn had a short monopoly over taxicab services for a while, but eventually other carriages with different routes began to emerge across the city. All transit in Toronto was offered through private services until 1891.
