Bank of Montreal Building, Yonge and Front Street, date unknown. City of Toronto Archives: Fonds 1568, Item 224; Alexander W. Galbraith fonds.
Description
Built in 1885 as the main Toronto office for the Bank of Montreal, this Beaux-Arts style building was once the largest bank branch in Canada. Designed by Darling and Curry Architects, the building features a stained glass dome rising above the banking hall. After it closed in 1982, it was selected as the new home of the Hockey Hall of Fame, which had outgrown its previous location at the Canadian National Exhibition. The Hockey Hall of Fame purchased and restored the heritage building, re-opening it in 1993.
