Description
Opened in 1922, Sunnyside Amusement Park was once a favourite lakeside destination for Torontonians. But the growth in ownership and use of cars changed where Torontonians sought amusement. By the late 1920s, Canadians had among the highest levels of car ownership in the world. Trips outside the city became faster and easier via car, diminishing the appeal of urban amusement parks like Sunnyside. In 1955, Sunnyside Amusement Park closed. In 1956, the Harbour Commission tore down the amusement park. Within several years, much of the area was covered by the new Gardiner Expressway
