Description
Photograph of John David Eaton and Lady Eaton arriving at 444 Yonge St for the opening of Eaton’s College Street store in October, 1930. Designed by architects Sproatt & Rolph, the building is considered to be a classical Art Deco construction. Originally proposed to be thirty-two floors, only seven were completed. The seventh floor housed a lavish banquet hall, known as the “Eaton’s Auditorium.” The store, including the seventh floor, was closed in 1977. Following renovations in 2003, the seventh floor reopened and is now known as “The Carlu”, after its original architect, Jacques Carlu.
