Man and woman, on grounds at Howard residence (Colborne Lodge) in High Park, 1907.
Description
High Park, one of Toronto's largest parks, opened in 1876 on 120 acres of land gifted to the city by architect and land surveyor John Howard and his wife, Jemima. The Howards continued to live at Colborne Lodge on the surrounding 45 acres until John's death in 1890. The city acquired additional land and High Park reached its current size by 1930. More than a third of the park remains naturalized. Although initially remote in location, it has since become a jewel in Toronto's park system, welcoming more than one million residents and visitors annually.
