Corner of Bloor Street West and Dundas Street West, 1927. City of Toronto Archives, Fonds 1244, Item 1090.
Description
Once a dirt road, and until 1887 the northern city limit, Bloor Street has evolved to meet the transportation needs of a growing Toronto. Horse-drawn streetcar service began in 1890 and electrified cars arrived three years later. By 1925, underpasses had eliminated the dangerous level railway crossings between Dundas and Lansdowne, and Toronto had a safe crosstown streetcar line. In February 1966, the TTC opened the first 18 stations of the Bloor-Danforth line between Keele and Woodbine.
