Description
The grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition at sunset with the Horticulture Building (1907) visible in the background. Built in the Beaux-Arts Baroque style, this building - along with others on the grounds - is a national historic site.
The Horticulture Building was the focal point of plan by Toronto architect George W. Gouinlock which included fifteen exhibition buildings for the Industrial Exhibition of Toronto, which was influenced by the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition of Chicago.
Along with four other remaining buildings, the Horticulture Building is among the first permanent exhibition buildings in Toronto, and sits in the previous location of the Crystal Palace, officially known as the Transportation Building, which was destroyed by fire in 1906.
