Description
This monument on the Exhibition Place grounds was commissioned by the Shriners, and dedicated in 1930 to celebrate nearly 100 years of peace between Canada and the United States. The monument is located on the site where it was believed American troops landed during the War of 1812.
Charles Keck, the sculptor, was a New Yorker and a fairly-well-known monumental artist. In a long and active career, Keck produced many sculptures and architectural reliefs, now on view from New York to Argentina.
The fountain surrounding the original sculpture was added in 1958.
